Lauren is doing well. She had a good day. She tolerated her feedings today and she has juice running right now. We did not feed her pureed today. I really wanted to make sure she did okay on the Nutren. She seems to be very comfortable today too. No pain!!! I think the Naproxen is working. I'm going to just let her relax and lay low for the next week. No extra activities and easy on the range of motion. Of course nothing with the right arm. After her surgery next week and she is recovering from that, then we will start getting back on track, but for now she deserves to just take it easy. I got lots of smiles from her today and so did the nurse, so that was good to see her happy. I know she is always happy to be home after the hospital~who isn't? Hope everyone has a good night!!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!
Well, what an interesting last 2 days this has been. First off we are HOME!!! Yeah. Lauren did well with her feeds and is back up to her home routine, except the pureed. We are holding off on those, maybe tomorrow we will start out slow. Last night they started her on Naproxen for the pain and another med to keep her bowels awake and moving. They aren't really clear on what caused this. Maybe a virus, a partial blockage that resolved itself or maybe the intestines fell asleep and slowed everything down for awhile, which would certainly make her sick. Or it could be from the collar bone pain. I guess we will never really know, but at least she is better and at home.
Now, about the collar bone. Her regular Ortho-surgeon that is doing the tendon surgery came by and read the xray himself from Fridays E.R. visit. The collar bone is NOT broken, it is merely dislocated. Ouch~it would still cause lots of pain. So the doctor that read it on Friday was obviously not trained to well in collar bone/growth plates. First of all, Lauren does not have a growth plate anymore, she is too old, it has already closed!!! So anyway, she does not need surgery on it nor do they put it back in place. It is a bone that heals itself with time. She just needs to be kept comfy with meds and not move it too much. So this was all a relief. Her surgery is still on for Wednesday the 11th. Please pray for her tummy to stay well and her pain to get better. Thank you all for your continued support and prayers!!!

Good Morning! Lauren had an okay night. She woke up alot moaning and I know it is from her collar bone. They gave her motrin and she finally is sound asleep, so I thought I would sneak away and give an update. She had pedialyte all night and is up to the rate of 70 ml an hour. She is tolerating this fine, so the next step is to start the Nutren back up. I think they will do this in the next hour or so.They want to get food back in her tummy(milk in her case) so they can give her something stronger for the pain. I am waiting to hear from the ortho-surg to talk about what to do in the meantime for her pain and stabalizing the arm so she can't move it. For someone that doesn't make voluntary movements, sure is moving alot. What's that tell you docs???? Anyway, we need to keep her comfy until next Wednesday. Please pray for her to tolerate the feedings and to get her pain under control. I hope to go home by tomorrow. I will update as things change. Thank you again for checking in and signing in.

Well yet another not so good update. Saturday night Lauren started having tummy issues again and was not tolerating her feeds. I stopped the Nutren (milk) early and waited a couple hours and then started Pedialyte and she still was gagging and actually vomited some up. Well the concerning thing about that is Lauren should not vomit because she had a procedure to stop her from being able to do that. It's called a Nissanfundalplication!!! Because she is an aspiration risk. So off to the hospital we went late Saturday night and they did admit her. Today they ran some tests to see about a blockage or if the Nissan had come loose, but thankfully every thing is fine. So maybe it was a virus, they aren't really sure. I asked if it could be from the pain from her collar bone and they don't really think so. I know after Ryan's car accident and his broken collar bone that he was very nausea and sick to his tummy, but the doctors here don't say that's the case with Lauren. We just started Pedialyte again, very slowly. Only 10 ml an hour. They will increase by 10 ml every 3 hours. So it will take awhile to get to her usual rate of 90 an hour, but we need to make sure she tolerates it.
As far as the collar bone, it seems to really hurt when we move her, but they are keeping pain meds in her. It still stands that it will be repaired on July 11th. Hopefully she will be all over this tummy stuff by then. I will keep you all posted on her. I can use the computer here in the hospital library from 8am to 4pm. SoI will post again tomorrow. Thanks for checking in and for all the nice entries in the guestbook. I am doing better. Thanks for caring so much for us.

Hi~Hope all is well with everyone. I have not been on for a few days and I apoligize. I have been very emotional the last few days and couldn't bring myself to update. I am better now, just was having very sad feelings about Lauren and how much of her life she has missed out on. I run into her old friends and see how beautiful young ladies they are becoming and all that they are accomplishing and it puts a huge whole in my heart to know that Lauren should be doing all of those things with them. I also was looking at old family photos and that really put me over the edge. Lauren was the cutest little girl and was becoming such a beautiful young lady and was so quickly robbed of it. It really hit me a few days ago and I was trying to pull myself back up and keep going.............and then the unthinkable happened again to her. She had P.T. on Friday and all went well, so we thought until I noticed a bump on her collar bone. The therapist wasn't sure what happened, Lauren didn't seem to cry out or moan. So I got her home and transfered her to her recliner, she moaned, loud!!! I just didn't like the look of it, so I packed her back up and drove to Children's in San Diego. Sure enough it is BROKEN!!! I couldn't believe my ears. It unfortunetly broke at the growth plate, so now she needs to have surgery to repair it. Yep, that's right, surgery. So on July 11th when they do her tendon lengthening they will fix the collar bone. At least that's the plan. I call clinic on Monday to confirm it all. So of course I started blaming myself for wantiing her back in therapy and the Orthopedic surgeon said it was nobodys fault, that it could have happened at anytime. She has lost bone density and muscle tone, so it was no fault to anyone. She wil probably eventually have a bone density test to see how much she has lost and what we need to do so this won't happen again. So this about sums it up for now. Hope everyone stays safe this weekend and have fun!
Love~Bonnie and Lauren

DEAR FAMILY AND FRIENDS~ WE ARE SENDING OUT THIS LETTER IN HOPES TO SPREAD THE WORD OF WHAT THE WEST NILE VIRUS CAN DO TO OUR LOVED ONES. WE WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THE DANGER OF MOSQUITOS ESPECIALLY SINCE THE HOT SUMMER MONTHS ARE APPROACHING. PLEASE, PLEASE WHEN YOU GO OUT DOORS AT DUSK, WHEN CAMPING, WHEN NEAR SWAMPY WATERS ETC. PLEASE TAKE CAUTION BY USING REPELLANT WITH DEET. ALSO LONG SLEEVES AND PANTS ARE A GREAT WAY TO PROTECT YOURSELF.IF YOU SEE STANDING WATER THAT ARE BREEDING MOSQUITOS, PLEASE REPORT IT TO THE VECTOR CONTROL ALONG WITH ANY DEAD BIRDS THAT YOU FIND. DO NOT TOUCH THE BIRDS!! I WON'T GO INTO MUCH DETAIL ON HOW IT EFFECTED LAUREN, IF YOU GO TO HER WEB SITE YOU CAN SEE FOR YOURSELF HOW IT HAS CHANGED OUT LIVES FOREVER!!
I KNOW MOST OF YOU HAVE ALREADY HELPED OUT A GREAT DEAL WITH SUPPORTING LAUREN AND HELPING WITH OUR FUNDRAISER'S THAT WE HAVE HAD TO HELP WITH COSTS OF ALTERNATIVE TREATMENTS FOR LAUREN. WE THANK EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU. WE ARE SO GRATEFUL FOR THE SUPPORT.WE HAVE DONE MANY THINGS FOR LAUREN~HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY, INTENSE PHYSICAL THERAPY,STANDING FRAME, EXERCISE TABLE, VITAMINS, HERBS AND LOTS OF OTHER THINGS.THE COST OF HER NEEDS GOES ON AND ON. THE MOST RECENT WAS OUR TRIP TO CHINA FOR UMBILICAL STEM CELLS. IT HAS BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL SO FAR. LAUREN HAS SINCE STARTED EATING BY MOUTH, 3 SMALL MEALS A DAY. SHE COULD ONLY TAKE A FEW BITES HERE AND THERE BEFORE. SHE WOULD STILL GAG AND NOT SWALLOW PROPERLY. SHE ALSO TRACKS WITH HER EYES NOW. THAT IS HUGE. SHE HAS NOT DONE THIS IN ALMOST 3 YEARS. SHE IS MORE ALERT WHEN SHE IS AWAKE.( SHE HAS HER DAYS AND NIGHTS MIXED UP RIGHT NOW) ANYWAY, MOST KNOW THAT WE WANT TO GO BACK TO CHINA FOR MORE TREATMENTS AND WILL BE HAVING MORE FUNDRAISER'S TO HELP WITH THE COST. WE HAVE T-SHIRTS FOR SALE AND TOTE BAGS AND WOULD LIKE TO GET THE SALES ROLLING. SO IF YOU COULD ALL PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE IN YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BOOK MAYBE WE COULD GET THE WORD OUT FASTER. WE REALLY DO APPRECIATE YOUR HELP. BELOW ARE LAUREN'S WEB SITES. THE FIRST ONE IS WERE T-SHIRTS/TOTES AND WRISTBANDS CAN BE PURCHASED AND DONATIONS MADE THROUGH PAYPAL. PLEASE HELP PASS THIS ON. HELLO EVERYONE~
LAUREN IS DOING BETTER NOW. OF COURSE SHE WOKE UP ON SUNDAY NIGHT AROUND 10PM AND DECIDED THAT SINCE SHE JUST SLEPT FOR A WHOLE DAY SHE GOING TO STAY AWAKE ALL NIGHT. SHE WAS HAPPY AND ALERT,BUT OF COURSE I WASN'T AND WANTED TO SLEEP. ANYWAY, SHE HAS HER DAYS AND NIGHTS MIXED UP AND I AM TRYING MY HARDEST TO TURN HER AROUND. WE ARE STILL HAVING TUMMY ISSUES, BUT SHE IS STILL EATING BY MOUTH SO THAT IS GOOD. SHE WAS VERY ALERT TODAY AND SMILING ALOT, UNTIL P.T./O.T. THIS FTERNOON. SHE DID GOOD FOR P.T., BUT THEN FELL ASLEEP AND WE DID NOT GET MUCH OUT OF HERFOR O.T.BUT OTHER THAN THAT ALL IS WELL.WE ARE STARTING TO LINE UP THINGS FOR ANOTHER FUNDRAISER WHICH WILL BE IN SEPTEMBER. DETAILS WILL FOLLOW AS THEY START TO FALL IN PLACE. THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE FOR MAKING ALL OF THIS POSSIBLE. LAUREN WILL THANK US ALL ONE DAY HERSELF, I JUST KNOW IT!!!

IT SEEMS THAT LAUREN ISN'T HERSELF TODAY. SHE WENT TO BED LAST NIGHT ABOUT 10PM AND SLEPT THE WHOLE NIGHT THROUGH. YEA!!! EXCEPT SHE HAS ALSO SLEPT THE WHOLE DAY THROUGH TOO. SHE COULD NOT BE WOKEN UP TODAY FOR NOTHING. I DID ALL HER CARE, TEETH, FACE WASHED, CHANGES, EVERTHING AND ALL SHE WOULD DO A COUPLE OF TIMES WAS PEEK ONE EYE OPEN(MAYBE TO MAKE SURE IT WAS ME) AND THAT WAS IT. SHE MAYBE WAS AWAKE 1 HOUR IN THE LAST 24. SO OF COURSE THIS MEANT SHE GOT NOTHING BY MOUTH TODAY. I JUST RAN THE FEEDING PUMP SO SHE COULD GET HER NUTRITION. SHE IS ALSO A LITTLE BACKED UP! NO POO FOR 2 DAYS.(SORRY FOR TELLING LAUREN) I HOPE THIS IS NOT A SIGN THAT SHE ISN'T TOERATING HER FOOD. I WANT SO BAD TO BE ABLE TO FEED HER BY MOUTH, SO PLEASE PRAY FOR HER TO FEEL BETTER. MAYBE SHE JUST HAD A DOWN DAY. I HOPE THAT'S ALL IT IS. THANKS TO THE ONES WHO SENT EMAILS ON FUNRAISER IDEAS. I APPRECIATE IT!!
